Black Friday 2024: the best drone deals you can shop today

The wait is over — Black Friday 2024 is officially here! If you’re a drone enthusiast, this is the best time of year to snag incredible deals on drones, accessories and pilot training courses. Companies are competing for your dollars, offering steep discounts and exclusive bundles to help you take your flying skills to new heights.

I’ve been tracking drone prices for over a decade, so I know which sales are actually worth your money. To save you the hassle, I’ve sifted through countless promotions to bring you the best Black Friday 2024 drone deals.

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or looking for a gift for the drone pilot in your life, here are the top deals to grab right now:

Best drone deals

20% off DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo (now $1,240)

Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.
Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.

Price: $1,240 (normally $1,549)

Sure, the DJI Air 3S drone is the spiffier version of this one that’s on sale. But I still maintain that the DJI Air 3, which is a mid-range drone that I loved when I first reviewed it in 2023, is perfect for hobbyists and semi-pro pilots. Its standout features include omnidirectional obstacle sensing, improved internal storage (42GB), and an all-new Panorama mode. With a $300 Black Friday discount, it’s an excellent buy for those looking to save while still getting a top-notch drone.

Now on most days, the Air 3S Fly More Combo with DJI RC 2 retails for the same price as the DJI Air 3 on normal days. But this weekend, the DJI Air 3 is $300 cheaper.

Up to 30% off HOVERAir X1 plus free battery

The ultra-portable HOVERAir X1 offers 4K video, auto-follow, and cinematic templates, making it a great selfie drone. While I typically recommend the DJI Neo for its lower price, the X1’s free battery and steep discount make it a solid alternative DJI alternative.

Read my HoverAir X1 review, and then check out the HOVERAir X1 sale before it ends on Dec. 2.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC): 0% APR and free water bottle

DJI Mavic 3 The Drone Girl Sally French

The 0% APR financing offer can be helpful in allowing you to spread out payments with no interest. Just realize the risks of jumping on such an offer. Missing payments or stretching your finances too thin can lead to fees or negative impacts to your credit scores down the line.

Early 2024 Black Friday deals are coming in hot for drone pilots

If you’re a drone pilot hoping to get an advance on 2024 Black Friday deals, you’re in luck. It seems that holidays like Halloween and Christmas seem to start earlier and earlier every year. And in 2024, the same holds true for Black Friday.

Many great 2024 Black Friday deals are already out. Companies are competing with each other for your dollars — and presumably brands want to get your dollars before another one did.

Sure, the early marketing emails are annoying, but the good news is that you don’t have to wait until Black Friday to get your deals shopping done. Speaking of marketing emails, I’ve been gathering deals from the top brands all season. I’ve been filtering out which ones are actually worthwhile (after all, I’ve been tracking drones and their prices for more than a decade!).

And with that, I’ve put together an early guide to 2024 Black Friday deals for drone pilots that are actually worth it.

DJI dropped its DJI Air 3S drone this fall, offering a spiffier version of the original Air 3. Among its biggest improvements are better omnidirectional obstacle sensing, a new Panorama mode and expanded internal storage (42GB up from just 8 on the DJI Air 3). It’s no secret that in a battle between the DJI Air 3 vs. DJI Air 3S, the latter is better. But that assumes the same price point.

The Air 3S Fly More Combo with DJI RC 2 retails for the same price as the DJI Air 3 on normal days. But for Black Friday 2024, the Air 3 is $300 cheaper. That makes the decision tougher in some ways, but either way you win: either a better drone with the Air 3S, or a $300 savings with the Air 3.

And for what it’s worth, when I reviewed the DJI Air 3 in the summer of 2023, I absolutely loved it — and still vouch today that it’s a great drone.

Buy the DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo with DJI RC 2 controller: $1,240

Up to 30% off HOVERAir X1 plus free battery

Between now and Dec. 2, the HOVERAir X1 is going for up to 30% off plus a free bonus battery in early Black Friday sales. The Standard it, normally $429, is now down to just $299. The Combo Plus, normally $519, has dropped to $359.

The HOVERAir X1 is an ultra-portable drone with features like auto-follow mode, one-tap cinematic templates, and 4K video capture. This drone is closest in comparison to the DJI Neo. And though I do generally recommend the DJI Neo over the HOVERAir X1 (not to mention, the DJI Neo is cheaper at $199), this is a good option of you want a DJI alternative to a selfie drone.

Check out my HoverAir X1 review, and then get in on the HOVERAir X1 sale before it ends on Dec. 2.

52% off DJI Power 1000 (now $480)

Price: $480 (normally $999)

This is a killer deal on what I considered one of the best portable power stations for drone pilots. The DJI Power 1000 had been on sale at $699 earlier this week, but now it’s been discounted even further to $480.

Portable power stations like the DJI Power 1000 offer the best of both worlds between a car charger (which is usually slow and weak) and a generator (which is loud and bulky). The DJI Power 1000 weighs less than 30 pounds, can recharge devices within roughly an hour and is super quiet — like, even quieter than most household refrigerators.

If you’re constantly roadtripping or camping with your drone, this is a game-changer.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC): 0% APR and free water bottle

DJI Mavic 3 The Drone Girl Sally French

Right now, you can snag the DJI Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC) with 0% APR financing and a free DJI-branded water bottle when you shop directly through DJI.

The Mavic 3 Pro is a powerhouse for aerial creatives, featuring a triple-camera system, 43-minute flight time, and Hasselblad imaging technology that delivers stunning photos and videos. The Fly More Combo includes essential extras like extra batteries, a charging hub, and spare propellers, ensuring you’re ready for long flights right out of the box.

The 0% APR financing offer makes this premium drone (yes, it’s $3,000) more accessible by spreading out payments with no interest. For those who’ve been eyeing a flagship drone but don’t want to drop a hefty sum upfront, this deal can be a game-changer. Just know what you’re in for. While 0% APR means no extra interest for the period of the offer, just know that missing payments or stretching your finances too thin can lead to fees or negative impacts to your credit scores down the line.

2024 Holiday Drone Gift Guide for drone pilots (at every price point)

Happy November, dronies! Yes, it’s already that time to think about Christmas gifts — or whatever other winter holidays you’re shopping for! And if you have a drone lover in your life you are shopping for this holiday season, look no further, The Drone Girl’s got you covered with our 2024 Holiday Drone Gift Guide.

From essential accessories to nerdy must-haves, we have something for every drone pilot on your list. Even if they do not need another drone (or if a drone isn’t within your budget), you’ll discover there are a ton of fantastic holiday gift options out there.

I’ve broken down the gifts by budget, so no matter what your budget or the drone pilot’s interests, we have the perfect gift for them. I’ve curated a selection of potential Holiday 2024 Drone Gift Ideas to help you find the ideal present for the drone pilot in your life.

So with that, here’s your 2024 holiday drone gift guide:

2024 holiday drone gifts under $20

Personalized Puzzles ($10.99): The drone photographers in our lives take beautiful shots and they deserve to be shown off. Why not take one of their photos and turn it into a puzzle for everyone to enjoy? Of course, you could make a personalized puzzle with any of your photos, but one of your aerial drone shots (or a shot taken by the gift recipient themselves) would be really special.

Drone Symbol Baseball Cap ($18.99): This baseball hat with the simple drone design is an understated accessory to add to any drone lover’s closet.

Tablet Holder for DJI Series ($19.99): It can be tricky for drone pilots to capture the perfect shot on the small screen, attaching a tablet to the controller can help the pilot view all the fine details. Before purchasing, check out your drone pilot’s type of drone and tablet and ensure they are compatible.

STARTRC Drone Landing Pad Pro($19.99):  A landing pad is a must-have for any drone pilot, it helps protect drones from damage when landing. This durable pad is easy to fold and unfold, making it portable and convenient.

Another great landing pad option, which is typically over $20 is the Ruggard DLP-30. The drone landing pad is currently on sale for $16.95 on B&H, saving you $18.

Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament ($19.99): I mean…drones would be much more efficient than reindeer anyway, which makes this super cute Santa ornament a perfect gift for Christmas.

LEGO Marvel Spider-Man’s Drone Duel Building Kit ($19.99): Superheroes and drones? It’s an excellent combination for any holiday gift. If your drone lover loves Legos, but superheroes aren’t their speed, there are plenty of other Lego kits that feature drones. Check out tons of other LEGO drone options here.

MicroSD cards (price varies): This is the perfect gift for any drone photographer because you can never have enough memory cards! A broken, lost, corrupted, full, or forgotten memory card will ruin any drone shot. One of our current favorite memory cards is the Samsung PRO Ultimate Micro SD and it is currently on sale for $36.99 (that’s a 27% discount).

Check out our guide to the best microSD cards here, many great ones cost less than $20.

Leonardo the Drone children's book

Drone Books (price varies): If your drone lover is also a book nerd, there are many excellent drone books on the market. You can check out our best drone children’s books here or a selection of excellent drone books here.

2024 holiday drone gifts under $50

Drone Dojo Subscription ($27…sort of): If the drone lover in your life also loves building and creating, look into a Drone Dojo subscription. $27 gets you a Blue Belt Membership, which gives you access to Drone Dojo courses, projects, and more.  The courses teach you a range of drone skills including how to build a drone from scratch, and how to program a drone to make it truly autonomous. Exact prices range based on how many months you want to subscribe for.

This is also a great gift as it won’t take up any space — and doesn’t require you to pack and ship it, either.

Check out our in-depth look at Drone Dojo’s monthly subscription model.

Holy Stone Mini Drone ($35.99): Perhaps the drone lover in your life isn’t ready for the real thing, or is new to the hobby, this toy drone is a great place to start. This indoor toy drone is easy to fly and sure to bring joy to the youngest of drone lovers.

Another excellent toy drone that is typically over $50, is the DEERC D20 Mini Drone. This drone has fun features like voice control and gesture features and is currently on sale for $50, originally $70 on Amazon.

DJI Mini 4 Pro 360 Propeller Guard ($35.99): If the drone lover in your life purchased the newest DJI Mini line drone to hit the market, the DJI Mini 4 Pro, then these propeller guards are a great gift — particularly because the kit sold by DJI rather annoyingly does not include propeller guards (no, not even the upgraded Fly More Combo).

But because the Mini 4 Pro is a top pick for beginners, having propeller guards is critical in giving any drone pilot even more peace of mind knowing their propellers are protected when they fly their prize possession.

Drone Case (price varies): Most likely, the most important thing in your drone pilot’s life is their drone, so give them a gift that keeps their drone and its accessories safe from damage, dust, and moisture.

The case and price will vary depending on the type of drone you are purchasing the case for.  INSYOO makes high-quality cases for most DJI drones. The INSYOO case made for the DJI Mini 2 begins at $25.99.

The hard-shell Nanuk case for Mavic 3 Pro/Pro cine is currently on sale, it’s over $50, but you’ll save $49.99 during the Black Friday sale. Purchase the Nunuk case for $149.96 on B&H.

Drone Lens Filter (price varies): Maybe you want to help your beloved drone pilot take even better photos, then get them a lens filter. Filters can help reduce the amount of light in bright conditions, increase the color concentration, and more. Different filters serve various situations (and are fitted to specific drones), so research the drone and what type of condition they are often flying in. Generally speaking though, filters tend to cost under $50.

For example, the Globact ND Lens Filter Set comes with 6 types of filters and is compatible with DJI Mavic Mini, Mavic Mini 2, and Mini 2S. The 6 set of filters is $36.77.

The NiSi filmmaker filter kit is currently on sale for Black Friday, saving you $25. This filter kit is made for a DJI Mavic 3 lens, purchase the filter kit now on Amazon.

2024 holiday drone gifts under $200

The underside of the DJI Neo drone, where you plug in the battery. (Photo by Sally French)

The DJI Neo ($199): We have to recommend DJI’s new, selfie drone that’s ridiculously affordable. It’s just $200, and it’s a perfect entry-level drone. It’s great for kids. It’s great for indoor flying. It’s great for situations where you don’t want a huge drone buzzing around.

In some ways, it functions more like a toy drone with a relatively short battery life (18 minutes max) and minimal strength in wind. But given the price point, this is definitely a great gift for a newer or younger pilot.

The DroneMask 2 ($179): The DroneMask2 is a mask that gives any drone pilot a seamless, immersive experience when flying their camera drone. This innovative product allows you to turn any drone into an FPV drone. The mask works with all camera drones and smartphones, so no need to worry about what type of drone they have. This gift is sure to please and surprise any drone lover. We recently reviewed the DroneMask 2, check it out here.

Spare drone batteries (price varies): You won’t have to worry about this gift being returned, as you can guarantee this gift will be welcomed and used. Every drone pilot should fly with spare batteries nearby, in case of emergency, making it perfect for the ultra-practical folks.

Battery costs differ depending on the drone model and are rarely interchangeable, so double check you are purchasing the right battery for your drone pilot’s specific drone.

To provide you with a sense of potential gift purchases, take a look at the DJI Mini 3 Pro as an example. Its regular battery is priced at $65. Alternatively, you can opt for the DJI Mini Pro Intelligent Flight Battery Plus at $95, which enhances the flight duration from 34 minutes to 47 minutes.

2024 holiday drone gifts under $500

DJI Mini 2 SE

DJI Mini 2 SE ($339, on sale for $298): If you are looking for an inexpensive drone with still high-quality features look no further than another drone in the DJI Mini line, the DJI Mini 2 SE.

Hands down, there is no better drone under $400 than the DJI Mini 2 SE. And during the Black Friday sale, you can get that drone for under $300. The DJI Mini 2 SE is currently on sale for $298.

Drone Adventurer Masterclass+ ($300): Taught by Belgium-based aerial photographer Johan Vandenhecke, this is a start-to-finish guide on using drones to take photos and cinematic videos–and how to make money while doing it. A perfect gift for any drone pilot trying to master their craft.

Plus, use this link with the promo code SALLY50 to save $50 off the base-level Masterclass course, or use this link with promo code SALLY50PLUS to save $50 on the version with the virtual coaching sessions.

If a photography course piques your interest, but you aren’t sure about this one or just want more information, read our guide to the best online drone photo courses for 2024.

Drone Pilot Ground School ($299-$525): If the drone pilot in your life hasn’t taken the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aeronautical Knowledge Test yet, chances are they will need to take that soon (if they are planning on turning their hobby into a business). Passing the test is a requirement to fly drones commercially under Part 107.

The Drone Pilot Ground School is by far the biggest of all the Part 107 test prep programs and the one we would recommend if you want an established player. But there are many other options if you are looking for something different.

Great news! The Drone Pilot Ground School is currently having a Fly-Day sale where each of their test prep packages is $107 off. The sale runs from Nov. 9th through Nov. 24th, so act fast!

HoverAir X1 ($445, but on sale for $379): This flying camera is a great gift for anyone who wants a beginner drone that records sound and flies indoors. Don’t expect a DJI-quality drone, when you purchase the HoverAir X1. However, it’s a great little companion for someone who is looking to record mostly human subjects rather than big aerial scenes. Read our full review on HoverAir X1 here.

The HoverAir X1 is currently on sale for Black Friday deals for $379, saving you $66. Purchase the HoverAir X1 on Amazon.

best drones for photographers 2023

DJI Mini 3 (starting at $467): This is the perfect starter drone, as it offers a high-quality camera, but still strips down the fanciest features to keep costs under control. Its camera is slightly lesser when compared to other DJI drones and it doesn’t have the full obstacle avoidance features. But, it’s DJI’s best drone under $500 (though that price point assumes you don’t need the controller, which a new pilot would.) If you want to explore other DJI drones for under $500, check out our guide to the best drones under $500.

Purchase the DJI Mini 3 now from:

The DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo is currently on sale for $654 (saving you $143.64). The Fly More combo comes with a Mini 3, an RC controller, a shoulder bag, intelligent flight batteries, and several other accessories, basically the perfect drone starter kit.

2024 holiday drone gifts under $1,000

DJI Osmo Pocket 3

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ($519): If the drone-lover in your life is always looking for the latest technology, then the Osmo Pocket 3 camera is perfect for them. It’s DJI’s latest compact and versatile handheld action camera. With major upgraded camera sensors, enhanced color modes, robust stabilization, and audio capabilities, it’s a versatile tool that caters to the demands of both amateur and professional content creators.  Check out our full review.

DJI Mini 4 Pro ($959): This drone just hit the market in late September and it is the best drone for beginners, hands down. DJI added omnidirectional sensing to this model, making it particularly crashproof. If you have been wanting to purchase a first-time drone for someone in your life, this is the drone to get!

The drone has a 1/1.3-inch CMOS camera sensor and is incredibly small and compact (weighing under 249 grams). I can’t recommend this drone enough.

Amazon Deal Days 2024: the ultimate guide to the best drone deals

Looking for incredible drone deals this Amazon Deal Days 2024? Whether you’re a hobbyist, aspiring photographer, or tech enthusiast, what Amazon claims is its “biggest sales event of the year so far” is a good opportunity to score high-quality drones at unbeatable prices. We likely won’t see deals this good again until Black Friday 2024. So if you can’t wait another nearly two months, jump on these drone deals now.

If you like what you see though, you don’t have a lot of time to think about it. Most of the deals below will only be there through Oct. 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

But with that, I’ve found the best drone deals, as well as deals on drone-adjacent products that drone pilots will love:

Top drone deals on Amazon Deal Days 2024

1. DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo

Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.
Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.
  • Regular price: $1,549
  • Deal price: $1,239 (20% off)
  • Key features: Dual cameras, 4K video, 48 MP images, O4 HD transmission
  • Why it’s a deal: For photographers who demand a high-quality camera, I easily recommend the DJI Air 3 as the top drone for beginners. It strikes a perfect balance between easy to fly, but also impressive quality. Now this version is the Fly More Combo, which is more expensive than the standalone drone, but it’s worth it. It comes with the DJI RC 2, which is a well-worth it controller given the built-in screen.

I will add, the standalone DJI Air 3 is also on sale for 20% off, which brings the $1,099 price tag down to $874. If you’re on a budget, this is also a killer deal. Though, you only get the DJI RC-N2 controller, which isn’t such a seamless flying experience.

2. Holy Stone HS720

  • Regular price: $249
  • Deal price: $199
  • Key features: 4K camera, GPS-assisted flight, and long-range transmission.
  • Why it’s a deal: Look, Holy Stone is not as reputable a brand as the big dawg, DJI. If your budget is $199 and you truly want the best drone, I’d honestly recommend the DJI Neo for the same price. That said, many people have been seeking DJI alternatives as of late — in which case this fits the bill.

3. DJI Osmo Mobile 6

DJI Osmo Mobile 6
  • Regular price: $139
  • Deal price: $120
  • Key features: 3-axis stabilization, built-in extension rod, ActiveTrack 5.0, and magnetic phone clamp.
  • Why it’s a deal: The DJI Osmo Mobile 6 is a must-have for content creators filming on their smartphones. Its 3-axis stabilization ensures smooth, cinematic shots. The built-in extension rod adds versatility (hello, selfie mode!). With ActiveTrack 5.0, you can lock onto subjects, ensuring they remain in focus and centered no matter where they move.

Though I will note: while the Osmo Mobile 6 is excellent for most mobile users, it may not be the best fit for those using larger phones or with heavy cases, as it can struggle to balance heavier setups.

4. DJI Osmo Action 2 Dual -Screen Combo

Osmo Action 2
I love the front touchscreen module on the Osmo Action 2!
  • Regular price: $279
  • Deal price: $179
  • Key features: 4K/120fps video, dual-screen design, waterproof up to 10 meters, and magnetic modular system.
  • Why it’s a deal: The DJI Osmo Action 2’s 4K video at 120fps is great for slow-motion shots and fast action shots The dual-screen design allows you to see yourself while recording, making it ideal for vlogging and action selfies. The Action 2 is also waterproof up to 10 meters, making it a fantastic companion for water sports, snorkeling, and more.

Amazon Deal Days 2024: the ultimate guide to hacking the best deals

Amazon Deal Days, the fall equivalent to Prime Day, is your chance to grab top-notch tech products at a fraction of the price. Drones, especially from leading brands like DJI, Autel Robotics, and Holy Stone, are often deeply discounted during these sales, making it the perfect time to upgrade or start your drone collection.

In order to be eligible to shop the deals, you must be an Amazon Prime member, which costs $139 per year. However, here’s a tip: sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime. That allows you to still shop the deals. From there, you can just cancel your membership within the 30-day period if you decide not to keep it — and avoid paying the $139 for Amazon Prime membership.

Tricks for finding the biggest discounts on Amazon Deal Days 2024

  1. Set price alerts: Use Amazon’s “Watch This Deal” feature to track prices. That way you’re really sure if the advertised Amazon Deal Days 2024 price is that much better than the usual price.
  2. Check Lightning Deals: Amazon offers limited-time Lightning Deals on certain products. These deals usually last for just a few hours, so check Amazon regularly throughout the day.
  3. Compare prices off Amazon, too: Amazon is a huge retailer, and the primary focus of this guide. But before jumping on any deal, compare prices with other retailers like Best Buy or Walmart. Many of those retailers are running their own deal days. Even without an official deal, many promise to price match.
  4. Use credit card rewards: Some credit cards offer extra cash back or rewards for shopping on Amazon. Check your card’s rewards program to see if you can stack savings. In fact, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card tends to be the best of them. This card has no annual fee, yet it offers 5% back on Amazon purchases (as well as Whole Foods). For pricey purchases like drones, 5% back can amount to a significant amount — making this card a valuable one in your wallet.

Happy flying, and happy savings!

Holy Stone Remote ID module down to just $21? How to snag this deal that’s as true as it’s good

Drone enthusiasts, rejoice! You can now snag a Holy Stone FAA Compliant Remote Identification Broadcast Module for a steal. That’s right, for a limited time, you can get this Holy Stone Remote ID module for just $20.99. That’s a whopping $70 off the original price of $89.99.

How? You’ll need a specific promo code that Holy Stone has shared exclusively with drone industry content creators like me.

Normally priced at $89.99, the Holy Stone FAA Compliant Remote Identification Broadcast Module has actually long been discounted to $69.99 on Amazon. But we’ve got an even sweeter deal for you. Amazon currently has a 50% off coupon, bringing the price down to $35.

To get that promo code to apply, you simply need to click the button on the main Holy Stone Remote ID module storefront page to apply that promo code:

Holy Stone Remote ID

Okay, so now you’re at $35. But when you use the exclusive promo code RID20OFF at checkout, you get an additional 20% off. What’s even more wild though is that the 20% off actually applies to the prior $70 price, not the $35 price. That means you get 20% off $70, which makes for an additional $14 off the $35 price.

And with that, you’re down to just $21. I’ve never seen a Remote ID module anywhere near that cheap.

Here’s the full breakdown:

  • Original price: $89.99
  • Amazon discount: $69.99
  • Amazon coupon: $35
  • Our promo code (20% off $70): $14 off

That’s how you end up with a final price of just $20.99!

The RID20OFF promo expires on Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m. PT. But, because it’s unclear when the 50% off deal ends, you should jump on this deal now. Get the Holy Stone Remote ID discount here.

Why you should pair your Holy Stone Remote ID module with Amazon Prime

One annoying drawback. Though the deal is killer, you’ll owe $6.99 in shipping and handling fees. That is, unless you’re an Amazon Prime member.

That said, you can become an Amazon Prime member for free (albeit for a brief period of time) by taking part in the Amazon Prime free trial. Amazon Prime membership typically costs $14.99 per month, but you can get your first 30 days free by signing up through this link. Just be sure to cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to get charged for the ongoing membership so you can truly get the Remote ID module for $21 (with no additional $7 fee).

Why this deal is, well, a big deal

This incredible deal on the Holy Stone Remote ID module is more than just a bargain. It’s a crucial step towards safer skies — and making it possible for drone pilots to become Remote ID compliant.

Not to mention, the Holy Stone Remote ID module gets great reviews too. It’s lightweight (weighing about 14 grams) — so it won’t significantly reduce your drone’s flight times. And it has a long life of its own, capable of going about five hours on one charge. It’s easy to set up, and it works reliably well.

The Federal Aviation Administration put Remote ID regulation into effect in September 2022. It’s part of an effort to enhance safety, security, and accountability in airspace. Though, it wasn’t until March 2024 that drone pilots were legally required to abide by the rules and ensure their aircraft is Remote ID compliant.

Yet many drone pilots have said the initial cost of compliance has been a barrier for many drone enthusiasts. And even still, many drone pilots fly out of compliance. After all, many Remote ID modules hover in the $100 price point (and some closer to $200). Some have said that price tag is prohibitively expensive, especially for hobbyists or small businesses.

So with that comes an opportunity to get what some consider critical safety equipment at an actually affordable price point. And perhaps that will encourage more drone pilots to comply with the regulations. It’s a win for drone pilots, the FAA and the general public.

As the new school year approaches, educators might be seeking new gear to provide the best learning experiences for their students. Adorama’s new program designed for educators—Classroom Connect: Adorama EDU makes that possible through major teacher discounts. But, you’ll need to act fast as enrollment ends on September 30.

Drones are a great way to keep students engaged with learning and are an excellent addition to any STEM program. However, the cost is certainly a barrier for many educators.

Luckily, with Adorama EDU educators can save up to 20% off on many of Adorama’s top products, including drones. Here are all the details about (including how to sign up for) Classroom Connect: Adorama EDU:

Adorama EDU

How much teachers can save through Adorama EDU

Classroom Connect: Adorama EDU is a specialized program offering exclusive discounts and benefits to educators. Educators enrolled in Adorama EDU receive a range of benefits — though the primary one is saving money.

Once enrolled, educators get up to 20% off thousands of products and an extra 6% discount on pre-owned items. Though not everything on Adorama’s website qualifies for the discount, some major drone companies are available:

PGYTECH, a major drone company participating in Classroom Connect, offers products like a protective carrying case for the DJI Mavic 3.

Sony stands out for drone pilots who might be interested in their Alpha cameras or the Airpeak S1 Professional drone.

Other participating brands include Fujifilm, Panasonic, SanDisk, and more.

Notably, DJI, the leading consumer drone brand, is not participating in the Adorama EDU program.

How to enroll in Adorama EDU

Getting started with Adorama EDU is a straightforward process:

1. Set up an Adorama user account: If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to create one on the Adorama website. It’s free to join.

2. Complete the SheerID online verification: Fill out the SheerID online verification application with your personal and professional information to confirm your eligibility. To verify, you’ll need a school-issued email address, and one of the following documents: an official letter from your institution, a teacher ID card, or a pay stub within the last 90 days. The documents must include your full name, the name of your school or logo, and a date within the current academic year (or within 90 days of today’s date).

3. Verification confirmation: After submitting your application, you’ll receive a confirmation message once your verification is complete.

4. Start Shopping: Once verified, you can begin shopping and taking advantage of the exclusive offers available through Adorama EDU.

Enrollment in Adorama EDU ends on September 30, so educators sign up now and save a little extra money on your classroom tech, new photography gear, or upgrade your devices.

2024 Prime Day: the best drone deals (even if you don’t shop on Amazon!)

2024 Prime Day isn’t over yet, and there’s still one more day to grab incredible deals on drones, accessories, and more!

The Drone Girl has already compiled our favorite Amazon Prime Day deals here, but the savings don’t stop there. Many companies are joining in with their summer sales, offering even more discounts on drone products.

That means that even if you don’t have an Amazon Prime membership (and you don’t want to sign up for the free trial to test it out), you can still nab awesome deals from other online retailers. And yes, we outline the trick to getting a free (temporary) Amazon Prime membership here.

We’ve scoured the internet to bring you the best 2024 Prime Day drone-related deals, both on Amazon and on other retailers. Whether you’re after the latest drone models or other essential accessories, there’s plenty to choose from.

Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the Autel Evo Lite+ in May 2022.
Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the Autel Evo Lite+ in May 2022.

Save $500 on the Autel EVO Lite+

Autel’s EVO Lite+ is frequently named the best DJI alternative camera drone you can buy by The Drone Girl.

This drone features a sizable 1-inch CMOS sensor within a compact design. As a result, it can capture stunning 6K video. The adjustable aperture, ranging from f/2.8 to f/11, allows you to modify exposure and depth of field to suit your preferred style.

The EVO Lite+ is 20% off on Amazon for Prime Day. However, it is 40% off when you purchase it from Autel’s website—saving you even more money.

Save $120 on the HoverAir X1

The HoverAir X1 drone is intended for beginners, people on a budget, and those looking to up their selfie game — and it’s highly portable.

The fly experience doesn’t match the DJI alternatives, but the ability to record sound and similar camera quality to a DJI Mini 2 SE  ($279) make it stand out.

The HoverAir X1 is usually $429 but is on sale for $309. The HoverAir X1 is also on sale directly from their website, however, you’ll save money purchasing from Amazon.

Save $50 on the DroneMask 2

The DroneMask 2 is a cost-effective way to convert your existing drone into an FPV drone (and even more cost-effective now that it is on sale).

Compatible with any drone that has a phone-connected controller, it offers an affordable entry into FPV flying.

While DJI FPV Goggles V2 starts at $342, the DroneMask 2 is 47% cheaper. Full FPV drones, like the DJI Avata starting at $629, are even pricier.

You can purchase the DroneMask 2 directly from the company’s website for $179, but you will save $30 if you purchase it from Amazon for $149.

Blackhawk 3 Pro drone

Save $151 on ExoTech BlackHawk 3 Pro

Looking for an American-made camera drone under $1,000? Check out the EXO Drones’ new Blackhawk 3 Pro. By some measures, it fits the bill (but not by all measures, get the details here).

The BlackHawk 3 Pro weighs 600gm, shoots in 4K at 30fps, and has downward obstacle sensors. The BlackHawk 3 Pro is currently on sale for $949 on Amazon and directly on the company’s website.

Save $60 on ZBROY Apollo Cinewhoop 3” FPV frame

Upgrade your drone cinematography with the ZBROY Apollo Cinewhoop 3″ FPV Frame.

The Apollo frame is DJI-friendly and can be used with the DJI Digitial FPV systems. The Apollo is designed for indoor shooting. Right now, you can purchase this FPV product for 60% off at Getfpv.com

Save $90 on Flywoo Naked GoPro 10 action camera

The Flywoo camera is based on the GoPro Hero 10 camera, but specially made for FPV. The major difference is that they have removed the traditional GoPro case and designed a new case that is tailor-made for FPV.

The camera comes with a touchscreen, mounting hardware, mount, and a filter set. The action camera is currently on sale at GetFPV.com for $600.

Save up to $200 on DARTdrones courses

Here’s a deal you won’t even find on Amazon, and luckily it’s not exclusive to just this week’s 2024 Prime Day. This sale has been ongoing — and we’re grateful!

After all, DARTdrones is featured on The Drone Girl’s list of the best Part 107 online test prep courses. Use the code SUMMER25 to get 25% off all online courses.

Founded by Abby Speicher, who received a $300,000 investment from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank, DARTdrones offers specialized drone training in over 25 cities, online, and through private sessions nationwide. Their services include Basic Flight Training, Part 107 test prep, advanced industry-specific training, and UAS program consulting. To date, DARTdrones has trained over 17,000 drone pilots.

Save $60 on DJI Osmo Action 4

This summer, DJI released the newest addition to its action camera lineup, the DJI Osmo Action 4, and for 2024 Prime Day, it’s 15% off. The 1/1.3″ sensor is the largest of any Osmo action camera and it’s even larger than the GoPro Hero 11’s 1/1.7in sensor (and it also touts a bigger equivalent pixel size).

There are also smart shooting modes, such as the 360° HorizonSteady stabilization modes (which include RockSteady 3.0/3.0+ for FPV footage and HorizonBalancing /HorizonSteady for horizontal shots).

Save $150 on Bose QuietComfort wireless over-ear headphones

Get high-quality audio, noise cancellation, responsive touch controls, and more with Bose’s wireless headphones. These over-ear headphones come with quiet and aware modes that let you toggle between full noise-canceling or full awareness of your surroundings.

If over-ear headphones aren’t your style try the Bose in-ear headphones which are also on sale for $220 (that’s $70 off the original price!)

DJI Power 1000 vs Power 500: which is better for the price difference?

Save $400 on DJI Power 1000

As DJI expands its product portfolio beyond drones, it’s added a compelling product that could help you charge them. That’s DJI Power. And sure, it’s great for drones, but it’s also great anywhere else you might need on-the-go, high power outputs, such as on a camping trip.

DJI for now has two models, the DJI Power 1000 and DJI Power 500. But in my breakdown comparing which is better between the DJI Power 1000 versus DJI Power 500, the DJI Power 1000 comes out on top.

What’s even better to add to the case? It’s on sale for 2024 Prime Day!

The DJI Power 1000 has a battery capacity of 1024 Wh and can provide a stable output at 2200 W until the battery runs out. It has a max output power of 2600 W and a peak output of 4400 W.

All of that, plus, the DJI Power 1000 has the largest discount of any DJI product during Prime Day (40% off!).

Save $50 on the Ruggard EDC-18LC electronic dry cabinet

Protect your camera, drones, or any other important electronics from excessive moisture, dirt, and dust with the Ruggard EDC-18LC cabinet.

The cabinet has a large LCD screen displaying the ambient temperature and relative humidity.

The cabinet is only on sale at B&H Photo, a sale you won’t find on Amazon Prime Day.

Amazon Prime Day 2024: the best drone deals

Amazon Prime Day 2024 kicks off today, featuring deals on everything from kitchen appliances to clothes to toys. And yes, drone pilots can get excited about new gear too. Yep, Prime Day 2024 brings plenty of deals on drones and drone-related products.

Here’s your ultimate guide to the best Amazon Prime Day 2024 deals on drones and accessories. And I need your help! If you find a great deal that others might love, leave a comment below!

By the way — before you shop — check out my primer Amazon Prime Day guide. There you’ll find tips and tricks for finding the best deals today and tomorrow (including how to shop the Amazon Prime Day 2024 deals without actually having a Prime membership).

Sally French, The Drone Girl, reviews the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.

Save $310 on the DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo

The DJI Air 3 drone features two cameras: a wide-angle and a 3x medium telephoto, both capable of capturing 48MP photos and 4K/60fps HDR videos. Additionally, the drone offers significant flight improvements, including:

  • Up to 46 minutes of flight time
  • Omnidirectional obstacle sensing
  • O4 HD Video Transmission System

The DJI Air 3 is ideal for someone who is constantly on the go, or a nice sweet spot drone for professional photographers who might not necessarily need the highest-end cameras.

The DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo is usually $1,549, but is on sale for $1,239. If you are not looking for the extras that come with the fly more combo (DJI RC controller, intelligent batteries), the Air 3 with DJI RC-N2 is also 20% off.

Save $230 DJI FPV Explorer Combo

The DJI FPV drone is ideal for experienced drone pilots, especially those trying to get into FPV-style flying.

The drone weighs 795 grams and has a flight time of 16 minutes. The Explorer Combo comes with Goggles Integra. The DJI Goggles are arguably one of the highest-quality goggles out there.

The DJI FPV Explorer Combo is usually $999 but is 23% off for $769.

Save $90 on the DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo

DJI’s most affordable drone is now even more affordable on Amazon Prime Day 2024. When this drone was released last month, it quickly moved to Amazon’s No. 1 best-selling drone, and for good reason.

The DJI Mini 4K is a fantastic entry-level drone with the ability to shoot 4K video, sub-250 gram weight, and ease of flight. It also comes with omnidirectional obstacle sensing, making it effectively crashproof.

The Fly More Combo comes with an RC-N1 controller, 2 intelligent batteries, and a shoulder bag. The DJI Mink 4K Fly More Combo is normally $449 and is now on sale for 20% off at just $359.

If you already have a DJI controller, perhaps skip the Fly More Combo and purchase the DJI Mini 4K which is also 20% off for just $239.

DJI Mini 3 Pro drones under 250 grams

Save $70 on the DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo

With the DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo, you’ll get the Mini 3, the RC controller, a shoulder bag, intelligent flight batteries, and several other accessories. Usually $719, it’s on sale on Amazon for $599.

The DJI Mini line is considered DJI’s drone line for beginners. So this Fly More combo comes with everything you need, I can’t think of a better gift for the novice drone lover in your life. If you do end up purchasing this as a first-time drone, consider the Drones 101 course from Drone Launch Academy. Also this week (though not actually on Prime) the course is currently 50% off.

Notable DJI Mini 3 features include its lightweight (249 grams), long flight time, and 4K HDR video.

So is $599 a good deal? For what it’s worth, the DJI Mini 3 drone is actually ultra cheap over at Costco — albeit not in Fly More Combo form. On Costco, the DJI Mini 3 drone is on sale through July 21 for just $299. The catch? It’s backordered for two weeks, and you’ll need to pick it up at a warehouse. Plus, that also requires a Costco membership.

If you want the full Combo version, or you don’t have access to a nearby Costco (nor a membership to boot), then Amazon is your best bet. But Costco members, don’t overlook the beloved warehouse chain.

Save $160 on Bwine F7 GPS drone

For an alternative drone to DJI that also costs less than $500 (when on sale), look to the Bwine F7 GPS drone. We haven’t independently reviewed this drone so we’re unwilling to full endorse it — but at least the deal looks good. The Bwine F7 GPS drone is usually $599 but is currently on sale for $370.

That’s because the Bwine F7 drone itself has fairly impressive specs for the price. That includes a detachable 4k video camera, a 3-axis gimbal, plus 5x digital zoom. Note that while the Bwine is a DJI alternative, it does not make the list of American drone companies.

Save $60 on the Holy Stone GPS drone

Another alternative drone to DJI that costs less than $200 (when on sale). And it is not always easy to find cheap beginner drones for under $200.

The Holy Stone drone shoots in 4K, has a return-to-home feature, has a 5GHz FPV transmission, and flies for an impressive 46 minutes.  The drone is usually $229 but is on sale currently for $169.

Save $104 on SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro

The SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro is a massive storage device. Any drone photographer knows the more storage, the better.

Consider the SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro for its impressive NVMe solid state performance, offering up to 2000MB/s read/write speeds, which ensures quick and efficient transfer of high-resolution footage. The SanDisk Extreme Pro is usually $400 but is 26% off for just $296.

If you want something with slightly less storage, Samsung’s SSD T7 Shield 1TB is 50% off! It usually goes for $169, but is now on sale for $79.99.

Save up to $36 on Samsung SD/MicroSD cards

Believe it or not, the microSD card you buy for your drone matters. For example, a more powerful drone will require a more powerful SD card. Lucky for you, many of the microSD cards that made our list of best microSD cards for drones, are on sale for Prime Day.

Here are some of the best deals on Samsung MicroSD cards:

Use The Drone Girl’s guide to help you select the right microSD card for you, or if you want the best deal, then we’d recommend the 512GB Pro Plus microSD

Save $38 on the Pelican Vault hard case

For photographers who frequently travel with their drone and possibly other camera gear, consider this Vault case.

The case comes with padded dividers and Velcro brand fasteners, so you can ensure each of your items is safely stored. The cases are also sealed against moisture and dust.

The Pelican Vault hard case is usually $189 but is currently on sale for $151.

Save $12 on the Samsung 256GB USB Type-C drive

Flash drives are perfect for storing your irreplaceable drone photos and videos, important work, school documents, and more.

The Samsung flash drive transfers 4GB of files in 11 seconds with up to 400MB/s USB 3.13 read-speeds. The flash drive is usually $35 but is on sale for $22.99.

Top Amazon Prime Day 2024 deals on products not for your drone (that we still love!)

Amazon Prime Day is packed with fantastic deals on a wide range of products, not just drone-related ones. So, we curated some excellent offers that, while not specifically for your drone, are sure to delight any drone enthusiast.

Save $130 on the GoPro Hero11 Black Bundle

For drone photographers looking to expand their filming POV, try the GoPro Hero11. The camera can shoot 5.3K video, has a water-repelling lens cover to help eliminate lens flare, and has a photo resolution of up to 27MP.

The bundle comes with the Hero11 black camera, 2 batteries, a curved mount, a mounting buckle, a USB-C cable, and a head strap.

The GoPro Hero11 bundle usually goes for $380 but is 34% off for just $250.

Save $60 on the Fitbit Charge 6 fitness tracker

For drone photographers, you either spend the day running around capturing the best footage or are stuck behind a desk all day editing said footage.

A Fitbit can be an excellent way to ensure you are getting your steps in, every day. The Fitbit Charge 6 has 40+ exercise modes, built-in GPS, active zone minutes, 24/7 heart rate, and more.

The Fitbit Charge 6 usually goes for $160 but is on sale for $100.

Save $10 on an ergonomic office chair

For all those hours editing drone footage, upgrade your work from home office with this ergonomic office chair. The chair comes in three different colors oil black, off-white, and dark brown.

The chair has an adjustable high-back, rotatable wheels, and flippable armrests. The office chair is usually $109, but is on sale for $98.

How to participate in Amazon Prime Day 2024

Amazon Prime Day is a two-day event starting tomorrow. To participate, you need to be an Amazon Prime member, which costs $139 per year. However, here’s a tip: sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime. You can enjoy the Prime Day deals and then cancel your membership within the 30-day period if you decide not to keep it. That way you can still snag a drone (or whatever you buy) on sale — and not also have to shell out the $139 for the Prime membership.

That’s not the only way you can avoid paying the full $139 Amazon Prime membership fee, though. Amazon offers discounted memberships for eligible customers, including students, EBT recipients, and those on select government assistance programs.

Best deals before Amazon Prime Day  2024

The larger deals will run tomorrow July 16 through Wednesday, July 17, but some items that might appeal to drone pilots are already on sale right now. Don’t wait on these deals though. If something catches your eye, snag it before it sells out. That said, here are some of the best Prime Day 2024 deals right now

Prime Day 2024

Get 10% back with Amazon Prime rewards Visa card

To maximize your savings, consider signing up for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card. This card has no annual fee, but you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership. The card offers several benefits:

  • 5% back at Amazon and Whole Foods
  • 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores
  • Travel Insurance
  • Extended warranty and purchase protection

One of the best perks is the potential to double your 5% earnings on certain Amazon products to 10% during special promotional periods. Eligible products for this increased cashback include the DJI Air 3, the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, and the DJI Avata drone.

How to plan for Amazon Prime Day 2024 today — so you’re ready tomorrow

When you log onto Amazon’s website, you might feel overwhelmed by the various promotions. And with sales popping up left and right you may be left wondering, am I getting the best deal?

Before starting your shopping day, list some must-haves and some that would be nice for your Amazon Prime Day 2024 purchases.

Next, when you’ll often see different types of deals next to the sales items. Here is a breakdown of what the deals mean.

  • Best Deal: Prime-Exclusive Best Deals offer significant discounts and are available either until the promotion period ends or inventory runs out. If you see something you want it, snag it given that inventory restriction.
  • Deal of the Day: These deals tend to be featured prominently to drive brand awareness to that particular project. Depending on the actual item, these deals runs for either 24 or 48 hours during the event, subject to selection and scheduling.
  • Lightning Deal: These are limited-quantity deals that run for 12 hours or until sold out. If you see this as a must-have item, purchase it right away. You’ll typically see a countdown clock letting you know when the deal expires.
  • WOW: These are some exciting, super limited-time deals. Though maybe not a huge deal, these deals tend to be considered “rare,” perhaps because that item doesn’t usually go on sale otherwise. If you see it for any must-have or would-be-nice, purchase it right away, as you’re unlikely to see such a deal again.

This Amazon credit card tip can get you 10% back on popular DJI drones

Here’s a money hack of sorts, that can save you big money: the Amazon Prime Card Bonus.

To take advantage of this deal hack, you’ll have to hold the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card. The card has a $0 annual fee, but you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member in order to apply. Amazon Prime membership costs $139 annually. Though, it’s discounted at $69 a year for students or $6.99/month for some qualifying government assistance recipients). The card has a myriad of benefits, which include:

  • 5% back at Amazon and Whole Foods
  • 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores
  • Travel insurance
  • Extended warranty and purchase protection

But one of the best benefits can actually double the 5% earnings on certain Amazon products to 10% — but only for certain windows of time. And among the products eligible for 10% back include the DJI Air 3, the DJI Mavic 3 Pro and the DJI Avata drone. But hurry, this offer is only available for a limited time — presumably until the 10th annual Amazon Prime Day officially kicks off next week.

How to save 10% on drones at Amazon

Here’s how the 10% discount on DJI drones purchased on Amazon works:

  1. Purchase a qualifying Prime Card bonus product. You can browse every eligible product here. All of them offer at least 10% back, and some offer even more. The eligible DJI drones include:
  2. Pay for the purchase using your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card. Annoyingly, it doesn’t work if you pay with other methods such as a gift card.
  3. The card always gets you 5% back. This adds an additional % back (in the case of the DJI drones, the additional 5% makes it 10% back).
  4. Within two billing cycles, you’ll see the money added to your account. It’s issued either as rewards points when you pay with a store card, or as a statement credit for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card.

And though Amazon Prime Day kicks off for its 10th year beginning July 16 at 12:01 a.m. PDT, here’s good news for people not looking to shop this week.

What to know about the Amazon Prime Card Bonus program

The Amazon Prime Card Bonus program is usually available year-round. If you can pay on an eligible Amazon credit card, Amazon is often the best place to buy DJI drones. With that rebate, you likely won’t find DJI drones that cheap anywhere else.

And the savings aren’t the only reason to shop for drones on Amazon. Amazon offers free and ultra-fast shipping for most orders. Returns are easy. Amazon sends you shipping labels to cover the shipping cost. Or, you can simply print back the returned items to the Customer Service desk at Whole Foods which can be even easier. Refunds are fast, with the money back to your account within 3-5 days of the return being processed.

Don’t drag your heels on filling your card, as Amazon Prime Day starts July 16 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and lasts just 48 hours. Shop now, and you might be the giver of one of the best drone gifts yet.
